In Les Noces, 'choreographed scenes with music and voices', in four tableaus, depict the Russian folk wedding ritual. Sober, stylized and razor-sharp. Stravinsky's music combines rhythmic brutality with an incantatory power and evokes both the timelessness and the inexorability of that ritual.
